This 1971 914/6 GT is one of just eleven such cars built by the Porsche factory. It won the first IMSA GT race in history, at Virginia International Raceway on April 18th 1971. It went on to win at Talladega, Charlotte, Bridgehampton and Summit Point. The last race of its IMSA Championship season was here at Daytona on November 21, 1971 where the Number 59 914/6 GT finished second (in class).

The Brumos 914/6 GT won the first IMSA GT Championship that year and raced once in 1972 and was then sold to a Mexican racing team. In 1988, Brumos found their first champion in Mexico City and restored it to top racing condition in just 59 days!

Once again the 914/6 lived up to its reputation by winning, the Palm Beach Historic Grand Prix enroute to the 1988-89 C.A.R.E. Historic Championships under Brumos preparation driven by Brumos C.E.O., Robert F. Snodgrass, Je.

IMSA victories and titles have become a Porsche habit in US racing. Since 1971, when Hurley Haywood and the late Peter Gregg won the first-ever IMSA GT event in the recently-restored 914/6 shown here, plus four other races and the first IMSA drivers and Manufacturers titles, Porsche has cored 281 IMSA GT wins (more than twice as many as their nearest competitor) amd 26 Manufacturers Championships (nearly as many as all other makes combined). The last three marque titles went to a 962 in 1985-87, with Chip Robinson winning last year's driver crown as well.
