1967 McLaren M6A

McLaren M6 A1 was built by McLaren for the 1967 Can-Am Series. It is mostly magnesium alloy, with a short wheelbase to fit Bruce McLaren, who drove the car throughout that season, which was the second in the existence of the series. It was first powered by an experimental aluminum, and then iron, small-block Chevrolet engine with Lucas fuel injection and a Hewland five-speed transmission. That season would reward Bruce with the first of what would become two Can-Am series championships. Of the six races run in the 1967 series, the M6 A1 finished in second place twice, and in first place twice. At Laguna Seca, Bruce would lap the entire field in this car.


This is the car that Bruce McLaren drove to win the Can-Am Championship in 1967. McLaren scored 3 pole positions and 2 victories that season scoring 30 points - enough to win the championship. Thus began a 5 year domination of Can-Am racing by McLaren Racing. The series was referred to as the Bruce and Denny (Hulme) Show.

It is powered by a 6 litre Chevrolet V-8 producing 525hp at 7000rom.
