Many
Porsche enthusiasts consider the 2007
Porsche 911 GT3 as their favorite model. There are so many great things to love about this sexy sports car that it’s hard to know where to begin. In fact, the GT3 is so popular that it’s featured prominently in the popular video game series, Gran Turismo. Thanks to its 415 horsepower, the 911 GT3 is Porsche’s most powerful non-turbo road car ever designed. It was developed by a two-time World Rally Champion and the head of
Porsche motorsport.
New Features
The 2007
Porsche 911 GT3 has increased the diameter of the throttle valve from 76 to 82 millimeters, as well as implementing a completely redesigned exhaust system and new cylinder heads. The top five gears of this particular model’s transmission contain shorter ratios and shorter throws for the shifter.
The great news for adrenalin junkies is the fact that these changes result in an amazing 0 to 60 mph time of a mere 4.1 seconds! This sexy speed machine can reach speeds of 193 mph, and the speedometer takes an impressive 8.7 seconds to hit 100 mph.
PASM
Other changes include a chassis containing a PASM (
Porsche Active Suspension Management) active suspension. Drivers are offered a choice of either a regular configuration for everyday driving or an advanced sport mode more suitable for racing conditions. A mere touch of a button enables drivers to switch modes and change the dynamic character of the vehicle by altering the three-way adjustable Bilsteins’ shock valves. In addition to recalibrating the dampers, the engine output is also increased by 14 hp. The director of Porsche’s motorsport, Hartmut Kristen, sums up the reasons for the PASM system: “You can never be happy with one setup for both the road and the racetrack. With PASM, we don’t have to compromise.”
This model also contains a defeatable control system for electronic traction which is very similar to the one found in the
Porsche Carrera GT. Other features include a mechanical limited-slip differential and a convenient illuminated tachometer which makes it much easier to see when you need to shift.
The cylinder heads of the engine is cast with 3 cylinders and attached to a split crankcase surrounding an eight-bearing crank. The titanium rods are much lighter, the valves are filled with sodium, the clutch is progressive and the camshafts are hollow-cast. These features all increase the incredible racing power of the 911 GT3.
Visual Appearance
The sleek
Porsche 911 GT3 features one-piece 19 inch aluminum wheels, numerous ducts for ram-air aerodynamic efficiency, engine intake and brake cooling and a channeled custom. Drivers can adjust the large rear wing and the company boasts that 55 pounds of downforce is generated by the integrated Gurney flap.
Interior
The interior of the 911 GT3 is fairly standard and as stylish and comfortable as you have come to expect of the
Porsche designers. The gearshift lever, interior surfaces and steering wheel have all been updated and 6 air bags, a CD player and air-conditioning are standard features.
