2007 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Concept

2007 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Concept Convertibles are usually regarded as exotic vehicles, and that was certainly the case with the launch of the 2007 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Concept at the 2007 North American International Auto Show. January in a snow bound Detroit may not be the best place to launch a soft top, but the Camaro Convertible had the class and panache to carry it off. With style.

Carrying on in the tyre tracks of the Camaro Coupe which was a showstopper at the 2006 event, the 2007 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Concept had visitors gasping in admiration of its muscular lines and whilst launched as a concept car only, audience reaction had Chevrolet executives admitting that the car would be going into production in the not too distant future, with early 2009 being the most likely date.

Looking just like a convertible version of the Camaro Coupe, and resplendent in Hugger Orange pearl tri-coat paint, with a wide pair of gunmetal gray sports stripes. The only major differences are in the exterior are rear fender gills, racing-style fuel filler door and a hood scoop obviously derived from the Corvette.

The Camaro concept coupe, boasts an interior which is unexpectedly elegant, featuring exterior matching deep-orange metal accents, offsetting light and dark. The car seats are a contrast of leather and black suede. In the concept car at least smoked satin aluminum provides an accent of mystery, especially when contrasted the forged from billet aluminum shifter and pedals. The interior of the Camaro Convertible bears a strong resemblance to the '60s theme as her predecessor and competitors. Round white faced red needled gauges encased in square frames taken directly from the first generation Camaros abound, General conjecture at the show that the standard production model of the Camaro convertible might be a little lacking in some of these features when it hits the showrooms next year. With many of the more refined features being optional extras.

Hints of power are amply provided by 21-inch tires on the front and 22 inches in back, mounted on deeply inset five-spoke wheel. Orange and grey are continued with bright outer edges and outlines on the wheel edge, contrasting with charcoal grey center sections.

The Camaro Convertible Concept Car was launched with a V-8 engine and manual transmission. Again conjecture is that when the production begins the car will also be available with a V6 engine, and the purchasers will have their choice of automatic transmission also.

All in all, the Camaro convertible looks like being a big success for next year, and those who are prepared to wait till then will get their hands on one of the best looking muscle cars to hit the road for a few years.
