If you’re the proud owner of a Mercedes, you probably take very good care of your prized possession. However, you will eventually have to replace some of your vehicle’s parts if you keep the car long enough. You may find yourself searching for a new Mercedes headlight at some point. Although most Mercedes parts are generally quite costly, replacing a Mercedes headlight may not cost as much as you expect.
Safety Issues
If you notice that a front or rear headlight of your Mercedes starts to become dim, cloudy or starts to flicker, you should have it inspected immediately. Not only can you be fined for driving with improper headlights, a damaged Mercedes headlight can also be very dangerous. One damaged headlight can severely restrict your ability to see objects when driving at night.
Replacing Headlight Bulbs
The good news is that you may not need to replace the entire headlight if you start to notice problems. The headlight might just need to be thoroughly cleaned or only the bulb may need to be replaced. The good news is that a Mercedes headlight bulb is quite inexpensive to replace. You can also choose to perform this easy task yourself which will save you the cost of installation by a professional.
If you have to replace the bulb for your Mercedes headlight anyway, you may want to consider one of the higher quality bulbs currently available. Older Mercedes bulbs tend to be much dimmer than the wide range of newer bulbs currently available. Halogen bulbs are much brighter than traditional bulbs and they can come in a wide variety of colors including purple, blue, white or yellow. One of the best quality bulbs is the High Intensity Discharge (HID) which is also known as a Xenon bulb.
Cost Of Replacing A Mercedes Headlight
Other causes of a malfunctioning Mercedes headlight include loose connections or a cracked glass lens that has become damaged by dirt or water. You may be able to replace just the front glass lens of your Mercedes headlight. This is obviously more expensive than replacing a bulb, but less than replacing the entire assembly.
If your vehicle has recently been involved in an accident or collision, your entire Mercedes headlight assembly may need to be replaced. This involves replacing the entire housing that encases the headlight bulbs. You can save some money by searching online for the various parts for your Mercedes headlight. This will be much less costly than purchasing the headlight directly from a Mercedes dealer.
