Locomobiles were built in Bridgeport, Connecticut from 1899 to 1929. They are considered to be the finest car built in the United States between 1915 and 1925. Locomobiles were very expensive. This car sold for about $11.000 new, compared to a Model T of the same period, which cost about $550.
Locomobiles were owned by the rich and famous, including the Vanderbilts, Armours, Wannamakers, Oscar Mayer, William Wrigley, President Hover, General Pershing, Charlie Chaplin, W.C. Fields, Cecile B. deMille and Tom Mix. Each body was custom built to the specifications of the purchaser. This car was originally purchased by a wealthy industrialist from Los Angeles.
