2006 Koenigsegg CCX

Koenigsegg CCX The 2006 Koenigsegg CCX is the latest member of the Koenigsegg CC group of models. The CCX is essentially a new vehicle, having been re-engineered to meet market and regulatory demands in the USA. The name CCX is an acronym for “Competition Coupe X”, and this latest model celebrates the 10th anniversary of the appearance of the first CC prototype in 1996.

Exterior and Interior

The Koenigsegg CCX boasts a brand new range of exterior and interior parts. The body features a unique front bumper, designed to perform well in the strict 2.5 mph bumper test. It incorporates improved brake cooling, US-spec side position lights and front fog lamps.

The front bonnet carries a new scoop, which acts as a fresh air intake for driver and passenger, and air vents behind the front wheels help with air circulation in the cabin. The re-designed front end also provides the option for racing additions.

The CCX is 3.4 inches greater in length than its predecessors, complying with US rear impact rules. The rear clamshell carries a pane of glass over the new engine, exposing unique, customisable Koenigsegg Block casting.

Inside, headroom is improved by 2 inches on previous CC models, meaning that the CCX is officially the most spacious super car available. The seats have been re-designed in cooperation with Sparco and test driver Loric Bicocchi. Whilst the seats remain carbon fibre, the front surface now gains full padding and there is an adjustable backrest.

Engineering

Optional 382 mm. front brake discs are connected to eight-piston callipers, whilst the rear 362 mm discs are coupled to six-piston callipers. An industry first is offered in the shape of carbon fibre wheels, which offer a weight saving of 3 kg per wheel over the standard magnesium versions.

The Koenigsegg CCX also boasts a new vortex generator which serves as a Ram Air engine booster. The existence of a fresh air intake under the rear window allows the generator to redirect the air straight to the intake, creating pressure in the air box.

The Koenigsegg powerhouse

The CCX’s engine retains the outstanding power and performance of its CCR predecessor, yet runs on US 91 octane fuel and is in compliance with the emission regulations laid out by the state of California. This outcome has demanded an extensive reworking of engine components related to emissions. Koenigsegg engineers have also added industry-leading internal piston coolers, lowering piston temperatures by up to 80%.

The manufacturer stands out against other low-volume super car marques by engineering their engines in house. These bespoke engines are also created, assembled and tested in Koenigsegg’s own production facility.

Koenigsegg sports cars are manufactured for an elite group of enthusiasts, employing futuristic materials and flawless quality, in terms of both functionality and finish. These factors combine to place the Koenigsegg CCX among the best models ever produced.
