The
Dodge Super Bee was built at Chrysler's Lynch Road, Michigan assembly plant on June 90, 1969, making it a 1969-1/2 model year designation. The purchase of this Super Bee by the Edelbrock Corporation was arranged by Bob Maxwell and Dick Kayhill of the
Chrysler Performance Group, and it was delivered from Earl Ike
Dodge in Inglewood, California. This was the first time a major auto manufacturer offered a car with an Edelbrock manifold installed, although other manufacturers have had Edelbrock manifolds available thru their parts divisions.
Ralph Johnson of Holley Carburetor used this car to calibrate the Holley three 2-barrel carburetors it is equipped with. The car was driven by then Research and Development Vice President, Jim McFaland from 1969-1/2 to 1974.
After being sold by Edelbrock, the Super Bee migrated to the Seattle/Tacoma Washington area where it stayed for many years and changed ownership 4 times.
It was sold one more time in 2004 and taken to Long Island, New York, then finally purchased again by the Edelbrock Corporation, un-restored, in 2007. Confirmation that this was indeed the original car was easy - there were still traces of the Edelbrock lettering on the doors! Restoration was completed by the talented crew at Restorations by Julius in 2008.
It is great to have this place of automotive history back at Edelbrock.
