2006 Lexus IS250

2006 Lexus IS250 Lexus introduced its first IS model in 2000 as an alternative to the LS 430 I an effort to attract younger buyers. Although market statistics indicate the average age of Lexus owners is 59, most individuals who purchase an IS model are approximately 29. The company launched the second generation of the IS sport sedan to the European public during Geneva’s PAL-EXPO. The 2006 Lexus IS250 is a sophisticated vehicle that contains numerous innovative, high-tech features meant to attract an even larger number of younger drivers.

Diesel Engine

Lexus is not nearly as popular in Europe as it is in North America. Consequently, the company decided to incorporate a high-tech diesel engine into the new IS model in an effort to attract more European buyers. Drivers are offered a choice of V6 engines. The 2.2-liter 4-cylinder direct-injection engine is constructed entirely of aluminum, and it was built in a new plant established in Poland. This engine can produce an impressive 177 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. A 2.5-litre engine is also available for this model which is capable of producing 204 hp and 184 lb-ft.

Exterior

Lexus has redefined the exterior of the 2006 model in a theme the company refers to as “L-Finesse.” The design contains simple lines, and is much sportier than previous models. Again, the company has focused their efforts in convincing younger consumers to purchase a Lexus. The body of the 2006 Lexus IS250 is 3 inches wider and 3.5 inches longer than the previous IS model, and the wheelbase is also 2 inches longer. Other standard features for the IS250 include polished stainless steel exhaust pipes, projector beam headlamps, fog lamps and puddle lamps on the heated rearview mirrors. Another useful design touch is the special glass designed to reduce ultraviolet and infrared light that is used on all the windows.

Interior

The cabin of the vehicle has also been updated to reflect the elegance and luxury that Lexus owners have come to expect. The interior is much more spacious, particularly in the back seat of the vehicle. Some of the useful high-tech features include a SmartAccess keyless ignition with a pushbutton start, a 13-speaker stereo system with a built-in theft device, and an audio input port that can be used for a walkman or iPod. Drivers who experience difficulty parallel parking will certainly appreciate the new navigation system that contains a useful rear-view camera.

Safety Features

Lexus has also incorporated several new safety features into the 2006 IS model. For example, the vehicle features a remarkable ten airbags that include knee airbags for both the driver and front passenger and high-intensity Xenon headlights that swivel when drivers turn the steering wheel to further increase visibility.

Lexus has also designed an exclusive advanced stability control system called the Vehicle Stability Control & Traction Control (TRAC). In addition, safety is further enhanced by the pre-crash seatbelt pre-tensioners. They are radar-sensed to automatically tighten in the case of an accident so that impact is reduced. The anti-lock brakes (ABS) are also equipped with Brake Assist and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) that adjusts to the particular speed and road conditions.
