2006 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S

Porsche Carrera 4S The next generation 2006 Porsche 911 carrera 4S is Porche’s all wheel drive 911 model; which went on sale in the autumn of 2005 across the Unites States and Canada.

The powerful, lethal Carrera 4S unbelievably offers more than its highly respected predecessor. In this new generation model more engine, more braking and more handling performance are offered. And most significantly, this new version is available with two engine options.

Featuring wider bodywork to accommodate the larger rear tyres, the Carrera 4S also boasts an enhanced Porsche Stability Management system specifically designed for optimal braking, more noticeable at shorter stopping distances.

Porsche engineering

Equipped with a 3.8 litre powerhouse which produces 335 bhp and propels the car from 0-60mph (96km/h) in 4.6 seconds. The Carrera 4S reaches a top test track speed of 179 mph (288km/h). It is a direct descendant of the celebrated, all-wheel-drive Porsche 959.

Indisputably, the Carrera 4S Coupe’s most arresting feature is its muscular rear bodywork. To fit the Carrera’s 4S’ 305/30 ZR19 bigger and higher performing standard rear tyres the rear fenders are significantly wider, measuring 1.7 inches (44mm)

Following the success of its predecessor, the Carrera 4S’s all wheel drive system features multi-disc viscous coupling, which transmits between 5% and 40% percent of the driving force permanently to the front wheels. Such a feature provides exceptional handling in curves and at high speeds a straight-line stability, as well as improved traction on wet roads.

Porsche technology

The Porsche Carrera 4S offers two additional systems: the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM).

The former supplies two new functions to enhance the Carrera 4S’ braking. The brake system is pre-filled prior to full brake application. This eliminates the air gap between the pads and the disk and shortens stopping distances. Secondly, for optimal braking, the hydraulic pump has the capacity to take all the wheels into the ABS range if the driver depresses the brake pedal quickly but not with excess force.

The latter aims to further enhance handling. The Carrera 4S, for the first time, comes with the new Porsche Active Handling Management (PASM) system as standard. The PASM system allows the driver to opt for one of two selections, the ease of a Grand Touring car and the track-ready precision of a truly high performance sports car - all at the touch of a button.

For those seeking even more, there is an optional package, one which combines the PSM and the PASM systems. The optional Sport Chrono Plus Package is designed to deliver a far greater sports performance with its ability to modify the engine management characteristics and control the behaviour of the two management systems.
