The Chrysler Group has long been noted for the passion and precision which go into the design of its vehicles. The Firepower concept is a grand tourer, which made its debut at the North American International Auto Show 2005, exuding the elegance, power, and customer response which the marque has come to expect.
Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President of Chrysler Group Design, explains: “As designers, we challenged ourselves. How could we best encompass such strong Chrysler models as the Crossfire, which began the brand’s move toward a higher level of performance and elegance, while looking to the most extreme expression of engineering and design such as last year’s prototype, the ME Four-Twelve. Firepower uniquely bridges these two worlds.”
The Firepower Concept has been finely crafted to the minutest detail, resulting in a powerful, elegant example of high-tech design and engineering. Both the interior and exterior feature high-quality materials, meticulously sculpted and fitted. The styling is matched by performance, provided by a 6.1 litre HEMI V8 and chassis based on the Dodge Viper.
Exclusive engine
The engine, developed by SRT, is exclusive to Chrysler Group models. The Firepower carries a rear wheel drive chassis, and its brakes and suspension befit the model’s status as a pedigree performance car. Transmission is controlled by a five-speed automatic AutoStick gearbox. Estimated technical statistics are a 0-60 mph time of under 4.5 seconds, and a maximum speed in the region of 175 mph.
The Firepower’s stunning appearance is enhanced by the addition of enormous billet aluminium wheels, the front pair measuring 19x12 in and boasting 275/35 R19 tyres, and the rear wheels measuring 20x12 in, with 335/30 R20 tyres.
Interior and exterior styling
The Firepower Concept comes in Hydro Silver Pearl body colour, with the addition of dark carbon fibre elements and aluminium trim features. The exterior design remains true to the Chrysler grand tourer principal, with the manufacturer employing Computational Fluid Dynamic modelling in the aerodynamic body testing process. This sculpting also aids the Firepower in achieving maximum engine cooling and rear down force.
The interior of the Firepower Concept pays full homage to the beauty and elegance which have become synonymous with the Chrysler brand. The cabin features Ocean Deep Blue as the primary colour, accented by Oyster leather and Behr maple elements. The leather sports seats, automated climate control and top-quality sound system provide the driver with a luxurious yet purposeful cockpit. Driver controls such as the steering wheel, gear shifter and control interfaces are finished with high-quality materials, and the instrument cluster is designed with clarity in mind, the detailed gauges enhancing the refined look and feel of the Firepower.
